The energy supply of the future - secure, independent and climate-friendly. We are working on a unique project pipeline for photovoltaics and wind energy on post-mining land in Germany.
By 2030, at least 80 per cent of electricity in Germany is to come from renewable sources. In 2023, their share of the German electricity mix climbed above 50 per cent for the first time. Wind and photovoltaic systems in particular are providing the necessary growth in green electricity.
The energy transition is focussing on energy regions such as Lusatia, where lignite is being phased out while energy remains an important economic and location factor. We are restoring the landscape by recultivating the areas left over from opencast lignite mining. Forests, fields, nature conservation areas and lakes characterise the post-mining land typical of the Lausitz region. Combined with renewable energies, future energy is growing here and at other locations.
We are taking a new approach to green electricity. In the overarching concept of the LEAG GigawattFactory, we flank solar and wind power with flexible H2-ready power plants and energy storage systems so that the power supply remains secure around the clock - regardless of the time of day and weather.
Turning potential into prospects - renewables on post-mining land
What began in 2019 with the analysis of suitable areas for LEAG's first projects in Lusatia and the Central German mining district is now one of the largest development projects for renewable energies in Germany. The existing infrastructure, the large areas of recultivated land and the regional integration offer ideal conditions for the transition to renewable energy landscapes.

LEAG Renewables GmbH is the competence centre for renewable energies within the LEAG Group and is one of the leading full-scope project developers in Germany. As an agile company, we view our projects from a 360° perspective - from the initial site analysis to the involvement of municipalities and authorities through to the realisation and long-term operation of our plants.
Our teams combine project development expertise, technical know-how and regional roots. Through interdisciplinary co-operation, short decision-making processes and clear responsibilities, we create the basis for a reliable and future-oriented energy infrastructure.

Strong projects for mining areas with a future
The transformation of our opencast mining areas is a unique project in Germany - both in terms of its scale and its importance for the energy transition. In all four of LEAG's opencast mining districts, suitable areas are being systematically examined, evaluated and - if the results are positive - transferred into concrete projects. The aim is to realise efficient and competitive renewable energy projects in each mining district.
The new energy landscapes are being created in close consultation with authorities, municipalities and the public. The development of the sites is subject to planning permission and in line with the recultivation objectives. LEAG Renewables is also supporting the affiliated company MIBRAG GmbH as a partner in the development of corresponding wind and PV projects in the Central German mining district.
Electricity from renewable sources is an important fuel for the energy transition in all areas of business and life - be it for energy-intensive companies, green mobility or the production of green hydrogen. In this way, the renewable energy landscape not only creates added value for security of supply, but also for the attractiveness of the location and the development of the region.
